Hello,

I can see that the frequency allocation for the SDRs is listed as 3400-3600 MHz in the resource specifications. I was wondering about the possibility of using the sandbox USRPs on the ISM bands, specifically around 915 MHz. Are there any limitations related to this? I am also interested in using the 433 MHz band if possible.

Thank you!

Hi Jackie,

By default, we ensure that the experiments in sandbox can be executed outdoor, where we only have license at 3.4 – 3.6 GHz now.

In theory, ISM bands can be used in the sandbox, as long as the used spectrum is not used for campus WiFi. For 915 and 433 MHz bands, I think they should be fine, but we need to coordinate with campus IT and get the testbed configured accordingly. How critical is experimenting with ISM band in sandbox to you? If critical, how soon would you absolutely need the capability to be made available? The ARA team is tied with several tasks until early September, but we will be happy to look into this ASAP.

Copying key ARA team members who can assist this later around September.

Best,

Hongwei

Hi Professor Zhang,

Thank you for getting back. It is not critical that we use the 915/433 MHz bands for our experiments at the moment. I certainly understand that the ARA team has much to look into, and I look forward to these additions in the future.

Appreciate all the help,
Jackie Schellberg
